4.3.1 Background

Starting Monday, April 2, 2012 all Scan PCs statewide should have two Kofax 9 software upgrades installed. Please complete the upgrades by Friday April 6, 2012. The work should take between 15 and 30 minutes.

4.3.2 Upgrade Files

Kofax Service Pack 3 (SP3) (.zip, 27.8 MB)

Kofax FixPack 8 to Service Pack 3 (FP8) (.zip, 7.5 MB)

Please download these zip files to the C drive of the scan PC by right clicking on each link and choosing "Save Target As" and choose a location on the C drive.  Unzip the files to the C drive.

If you download the files to a network drive or another PC, you MUST move them to the C drive of the scan PC before installation.  You should be able to do a remote installation if necessary, but you must have full Administrator's rights to the scan PC and the files must be on that C drive.

These upgrades should fix many of the problems we are experiencing with grayed out documents in the CWW and long lag time for documents showing up in the CWW.  The Kofax scanning software will continue to work if you don't do the upgrades, but the problems will persist until this is done.

4.3.3 Instructions

  1. Unzip the files to the C drive of the scan PC.

  1. Close all Kofax software on the scan PC. This includes the Scan Module, Batch Manager, or Validation Module.  Close all other unnecessary programs.  Make sure the Kofax Batch Manager is empty. Work with a scanner operator to ensure that it is. All batches must be processed or deleted before you can continue with the upgrades.

  1. Also close the Remote Synchronization Agent (RSA). This is represented by an icon in the system tray in the lower right corner of Windows.   Right click on it and choose "close."  If you don't see it, you can also close it in step 5 below.

  1. Shut down Kofax Services in Windows. There are several ways to get to the Services. One method is to right click on My Computer and left click on "Manage." Open the Services and Applications folder and left click on "Services."
  1. Shut down the ACIS Remote Synchronization Agent Service (if it exists) by right clicking on it and choosing "stop."  If you completed step 3 above correctly, you will not see this service. Go to step 6.
  1. Shut down the Kofax Capture Service by right clicking on it and choosing "stop."
  1. Go to the folder where you unzipped the upgrade files.  Open folder KofaxCapture-9.0.3_EN. This is the SP3 upgrade folder.  You MUST install SP3 before installing FP5.
  1. Double click on the .exe file to start the upgrade.
  1. When the upgrade is complete, reboot the PC.  Click Contact Us below if you experience any problems. The reboot will restart Kofax services.

  1. Close down any unnecessary programs and shut down all Kofax software again. Stop the RSA service and the Kofax Capture Service again. See steps 3-6 for this and return to step 11.

  1. Go to the folder where you unzipped the upgrade files.  Open folder kofaxcapture-9.0.3.8_r2. This is the FP8 upgrade folder.
  1. Double click on the .msp file to start the upgrade.
  1. When the upgrade is complete, reboot the PC.  Click Contact Us below if you experience any problems.  This is the last step of the upgrades.  The scanner operators may resume ECF scanning.

If you are doing these upgrades as part of a new installation of the Kofax software, return to 3.6.4 Install VRS Service Pack 1 (SP1) to complete the installation. If Kofax 9 was already installed and you were just doing the upgrades, you are finished.
